During the 1800's lowcountry planters "summered" in Summerville, hence the name. During the Victorian era, vacationers retreated to this area for peace and solitude. The town has a wonderful old fashioned feel with village streets lined canopied with trees, Victorian homes with large wrap around porches and a town square that will really take you back in time. Housing choices here range from beautifully restored Victorian homes to new subdivisions, some with golf courses.
Summerville is affectionately called Flowertown because of its spectacular display of azaleas, camellias and dogwoods. There is a spring Flowertown festival that draws more than 200,000 guests.
